Vintage at Valleyfield

July 13-15, 2012

Many thanks to Ben Lemay for bringing our vintage race boats back to Valleyfield, Quebec to participate in the largest inboard race in North America, a huge celebration.

And upon arrival - each vintage team got $300 in tow money and a case of beer !!!

The past came alive this summer when the vintage race boats of bygone eras returned to Valleyfield to participate in a the largest inboard race in North America. Our beloved vintage race boats ran well again this year at Valleyfield, with our Gold Cup boats running during the opening ceremonies and then heats of our vintage skiffs, mid hydros and vintage grand prix hydros, right before the final heats of the racing GP's. Just as Ben Lemay promised, we all ran once each day on the historic Valleyfield race course. And on Sunday afternoon, we ran right before the Finals.

This year for the second time, Valleyfield extended an invitation to the vintage gold cup boats and all small/mid sized vintage hydros, along with the fire breathing vintage Grand Prix  hydros. With these classes of our vintage race boats running some pretty hot laps on all three days of racing, vintage had a chance to show the crowds how it all started. And the crowds at Valleyfield were huge as always, chanting "vintage...vintage" as the sound system was cranked and the beer is flowing in the stands. For our vintage race boat crews, it was the chance of a lifetime to run on the historic Valleyfield race course and hear the roar of the Valleyfield crowds !!!

The crowds grew larger and larger, the music got louder and louder, and the beer was flowing. The Saturday GP Hydroplane elimination heats saw 12 GP Hydros thrashing to run in the Sunday Finals. They ran three heats of GP's with four or five boats in each heat. They were very fast and they were very loud. And the huge crowds on Sunday afternoon were wild well before the GP Finals, with eight Grand Prix Hydroplanes screaming down the front shoot. The crowds were chanting and our vintage gang got a front row seat at Anderson Corner, for the loudest, wildest, and most exciting boat racing that we call - The Valleyfield Experience.

You have to be there to experience and understand - The Valleyfield Experience !!!

Valleyfield has a rich inboard racing history, running all classes of inboard hydroplanes, along with the skiffs and flatbottoms with three full days of championship racing. The crowds in the grandstands are huge and loud, and they know and love their race boats. Valleyfield is also the home of the fire breathing Grand Prix Hydroplanes with their screaming big block blower motors and speeds of over 160 MPH down the shoots. For our vintage race boat crews, it was the chance of a lifetime to run on the historic Valleyfield race course.

We just got home from our 2012 Valleyfield Experience and will be posting our 2012 Recap & Photos during the next several days. So please check back often and follow our progress.

Until then - here is our 2011 Recap & Photos !!!

Thursday - July 7, 2011

Our Wolfeboro Team left on Thursday morning for the six hour trek to Valleyfield. The weather was good, we made good time and arrived safe and sound at the Valleyfield pits on Thursday afternoon. Our Valleyfield Experience had begun, as we waited patiently in line as the race boats were registered and staged into position for the regatta. The many smiling faces at registration made the process fun and at the end of the paperwork line, each vintage team got $300 in tow money and a case of beer. How cool is that !!!
