Vintage Race Boat Shop Newsletter - Summer
Events & Celebration of Janice Hayes
Good morning Gang,
The temps have been in the 90's all this week, as we are
enjoying a very hot and
very sunny, summer of fun here in beautiful Wolfeboro. This is a
magical time of the year as we are in constant motion preparing
and participating at one vintage event after another. Lots of
fun, and we have also been busy updating our Websites
with lots of photos and recaps of our summer events.
37th Annual ACBS Boat Show - July 23-24, 2010
This year's 37th Annual Lake
Winnipesaukee Antique & Classic Boat Show at the Meredith public
docks was a huge gathering of beautiful antique and classic
boats, with large crowds and over 60 vintage boats on display
all day in a judged competition. This was quite a sight to
behold, and for a special treat the crowds arrived early at the
Meredith town docks on Saturday morning to watch and listen as
the vintage boats arrived under their own power. There was also
a large static display of vintage race boats in the Hesky Park
area. The sights and sounds were magnificent, and to get an idea
of the magnitude of this annual gathering of wooden boats,
please take a moment to view our photo album from this year's
Lake Winnipesaukee Antique & Classic Boat Show. Here is the link

Antique Race Boat Regatta at Clayton, NY -
August 12-15, 2010
Back in the early 90’s some
nostalgia buffs with old race boats were musing about the
success of the Antique Boat Show at the Clayton Antique Boat
Museum. The idea to hold a similar event with vintage race boats
was tossed out and caught hold. Bill Munro chaired a large group
of committed enthusiasts who hosted the first ever Vintage Race
Boat Regatta in August of 1992. Eighteen years of this biennial
event have brought together some of the greatest names in racing
and likewise many of the most famous boats of all time. Such
greats as Riggs Smith, Bob Schroeder, Fred Alter and Buddy Byers
were on the original organizing committee. Many others were in
critical positions making it all happen. Over the years the
Antique Race Boat Regatta has given owners, drivers, historians
and the public an opportunity to see the greatest boats of all
time performing in the water with dramatic rooster tails and the
roar of powerful engines. This summer was the 10th anniversary
of the Antique Race Boat Regatta at Clayton,
the first and still the largest
event on the vintage circuit, this was a huge gathering. Many
thanks to Dave Richardson and his the Clayton crew from our NH
Navy, we had a great time!!!

Fall Foliage Cruise - October 9,
2010
George Johnson started this
tradition years ago, and now Charley Train has stepped up to
revive our annual trek. This is a Fall gathering of our local
ACBS membership, and a celebration of our beautiful wooden
boats. The route will depend on weather and water conditions,
and all are welcome to join our entourage. Our cruise will begin
at the Wolfeboro public docks at 8:30 AM. If weather conditions
permit, we will be heading under the Governors Island Bridge
toward Paugus Bay, then to the Naswa Resort for brunch. After
brunch, if the water conditions permit we will take a scenic
cruise up to Greens Basin at the northern tip of the lake, then
return home to Wolfeboro.

On a personal note - a Tribute and
Celebration of Janice Hayes
We are sorry to report the
passing of Janice Hayes on August 28, 2010 due to a tragic
accident. Janice was the unsung hero of our annual ACBS boat
show for many years, and now it is time to celebrate Janice. Our
fondest memory of her was at our recent ACBS Board Meeting where
she was honored and received a standing ovation from her peers
for her many years of volunteer work. Janice was absolutely
beaming and we shall always cherish the time that she shared
with us. Thank you and may God bless you Janice, for you have
touched more people in your life than you could have ever
imagined.
